Make a toy parachute with your children
Our theme this week: Things that fly...
Parachutes:
What you need:
1. A small stick, a shell with a hole, pegs or something else like that. This will be the person who is floating down with the parachute.
2. About 10 plastic bags for 20 children. Cut them around the edges to have two flat pieces of plastic. Draw a large circle (as big as you can make it) on the piece of plastic.
3. String
How the children make their parachutes:
1. The children cut along the lines of the circle you have drawn to make a circle of plastic.
2. The children make four holes in the plastic with the scissors (not too close to the edge as otherwise it will tear).
3. They then cut four pieces of string about 20cm long each.
4. They tie one end of the string to the holes. The other end they tie to the stick or the shell.
5. They throw the parachute up and watch it come down.
It is fun to climb up onto the top of the jungle gym and let the parachute float down to the ground.
