Dust and pollen experiment for pre-schoolers

Dust and pollen experiment for pre-schoolers and 'What are nose hairs for?'

August is Joburgs windy month - a good time for this experiment!

Get three pieces of card about 10cmx10cm. Spread Vaseline on them.

Do this with interested children or during ring time.

Then place one on the windowsill, stick up on the wall outside, one on the table you use as an interest table. They will be clean when you do them but as the week goes by they will get covered with dust – this dust, pollen and so on is in the air we breathe. Discuss the result with the children!

Put a small mirror on the theme or nature table as well (a mirror like the one you get in powder compacts – make-up - will be fine). Look into your noses with a mirror and you will see small hairs. These hairs help to keep the dust out of our lungs!
