Dear all who contributed to the 13th of July work day!
Dear all who contributed to the 13th of July work day!
An enormous thank you to Emerald Risk Transfer who donated so much in the way of financial contributions towards the materials and labour for the upgrading of Khanya and Entlantleni! And to organising of the materials needed for the work day and preparation for the work day. Tracy, Tanita and Andre also gave so much time to visiting the centre and did so much buying and a huge delivering – with so much enthusiasm and creative thought!
Then another thank you to the Emerald Risk Transfer staff who worked with a great will and achieved so much. It was quite an exhausting day!
The sand pit was such a huge job – with the misunderstandings – now we realise that no digging had actually been required at all! Ah well, the children’s enjoyment of it for years to come will be your reward! And the paving was done so amazingly! The veggies will become big and wonderful and tasty and the children will help to take care of them and watch them grow and then have the pleasure of eating them! And the books are now so lovely and clean and mended! The toys cleaned –the way they actually need to be kept all the time! It is easier to respect and care for things in good nick than things that are dirty and broken! This is a necessary part of good pre-school education.
Perhaps one could not see the overall improvement immediately as some things just need finishing off and putting away. I will be taking photo’s so that you can see over the next few months how everything goes on!
It was great to have your family members there too! Preparing the next generation to becoming giving, nurturing and sharing!
Thanks to AFFT who introduced Emerald Risk Transfer to us all. And for doing some of the buying, organising cake and Lee who fetched lost people and helped in lots of big and little ways despite feeling very much under the weather!
And thanks to Lindelwa and Noluthando whose work to improve themselves as teachers (and nurturing, life- long learning people) and their centres has made a huge difference to the children under their care. People like you, Noluthando and Lindelwa, make it possible for us to have the joy and satisfaction of giving. The funny thing about giving is that one always gets back so much more from giving than receiving! So thanks for being who you are and for the day to day, week to week and year on year work you do to protect, love and teach children in your community.
Thank you also to Noluthando and Lindelwa’s family members who worked with a will to get the heavy work done. You were all starry, stars!
And thanks to a few parents who were able to come and help after work. It is always great to see you at your child’s school getting involved in your child’s educational life!
We also hope that the difficulties of organising something like this is very under-resourced areas could be really felt and understood. We are trying to build a community – not just the children’s centre. Slowly we hope by involving community members and parents we will build a sense of hope, possibility and a sense of ownership and a platform where people can start to take on greater responsibilities. It is harder to build people than buildings and requires a lot of patient input!
But we feel it to be integral to what we are doing. Involved, responsible, hopeful parents build children with the same qualities!
With thanks and respect for a job very well done!
