A traditional Xhosa wedding...
A traditional Xhosa wedding...

Today I arrived at Entlanleni children’s centre and heard drumming and then as I got out of my car I saw the children spilling out of their playroom ululating and singing and dancing around one little girl. When they saw me they sand and drummed and danced even louder. The teacher explained that they were pretending to have a wedding and the little girl in the middle was the bride. The children took no notice of us talking as they got too involved in their game, circling the playground and clapping and stamping and having a wonderful time. The theme this week is ‘My culture’ and they were learning something about the cultures that each of the children come from as well as South African culture in general. I wish I had a photo of it but I was in such a hurry that I forgot.
Pre-school learning is so multifaceted and must come from where the children are in that moment in time...and be FUN!
