    Toys have names…

Today I was helping an ECD practitioner sort out her educational toy area. I asked, “Where are your puzzles?” and she pointed to the duplo. One takes so much for granted. There is language to contend with as most modern toys have Western names (or Eastern ones increasingly).

    Enter the Flying Children Programme!

Yesterday we had a work day for Khanya and Entlantleni (we try to have work days each term). Tyres were placed and painted, jungle gyms were given facelifts, the toilet areas were also painted colourfully and shelves were made. Even some of the little ones got involved.

    Challenging doctor’s visits

I had an interesting experience on Monday the 12th. I took three children to St John’s Eye Hospital in Soweto, leaving home at 5am.

    The JD Group at Rishile

The JD Group and a whole crowd of their friends from PricewaterhouseCoopers came to a Work Day at Rishile.

    Toy swop

I have started a toy library arrangement with the centres we work with. 5 educational toys are circulated over five weeks.

    Help

The truth is that we need money to continue to be in the position to help. And Flying Children is still very much looking for financial backing!

    Childcare

Anyone willing to put R250 a month towards getting a small child properly cared for this year?

    The teachers’ January money diet

    • January 18, 2012 | Admin

Athough all the centres are open again, they are still quite empty. The parents are all feeling the pinch of Christmas spending, school uniforms, fees and stationary for their children, so the pre-schoolers have to wait until February, or even later, to go to school.
